Every winter the International District Housing Alliance (IDHA) organizes the holiday gift drive in the Chinatown/International District (CID) to help bring seasonal cheer to neighborhood residents and community members. Our youth program organizes the Holiday Dinner dinner to allow elderly residents of the CID celebrate the season with friends and family. Activities include live entertainment, 6 course Chinese banquet, raffle and door prizes. Second Use Building Materials 7953 2nd Ave S Seattle, 98108 Help us spread the word! We are reaching out to you and your neighbors so that everyone is aware of the route and necessary road closures.
Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle sold out two months early with 25,000 entrants! The course starts on Interurban Ave in Tukwila and finishes at Qwest Field in Seattle. Even if you do not live or work directly on the course, please be aware of the road closure times and plan ahead to give yourself extra travel time to get around town.
Be Prepared. Plan ahead. Review the Road Closure Information and Alternate Access Routes http://www.rnrseattle.com/course/Road_Closures.html
Course Description Both the full and half marathon start together on Interurban Ave in Tukwila, south of downtown Seattle. The course runs through Tukwila and makes its way to the scenic shores of Lake Washington for miles 4 through 9. Full marathoners only split off for 2 miles on the floating Lake Washington Bridge. Both courses... The people that are working on 202 Main St. are planning on adding two more stories to the building. They've already constructed most of the elevator shafts and are taking molds of the facade so that they can have continuity. I just noticed the two new security cameras on either end of Occidental between Yesler and the pedestrian park. I saw them because they were big and bulky and had a bunch of wires sticking out. Kind of an eyesore actually (but not as much as the unshowered vagrants standing underneath them). I went by to take some photos and saw that, despite their appearance, they are quite operational (kind of like the Death Star, I guess). The cameras were swiveling on what seemed like a predetermined routine, focusing down Yesler (or Washington) both ways and then Occidental. I didn't notice any other cameras around the area and that lead me to wonder, "who picked the location? And who watches the video? Can the viewer manually operate them from their control room? How good is the picture quality at night?" Um, hooray? Does anyone know any of the details regarding the horse showroom break in? I am curious to receive feedback regarding doing a Sunday market in Pioneer Square similar to the one that is in Ballard. I clearly can see the challenges. However, we certainly have the perfect setting for it. The occidental park would be ideal. Perhaps from late April - August when the weather is warmer. This would be very enjoyable for the local community and our tourists. Also helpful to the local business owners as it would bring people to the square. Any thoughts and how we can proceed? I was walking by Cafe Paloma and noticed a poster in their window about this. 3 courses for $20. There are a handful of restaurants participating aside from Paloma; Mitchellis, The New Orleans, and more...
Does anyone know any other details about this?
The poster was a little vague. I think it mentioned it was a special for the last week of every month. I tried to google it, but didn't find any info on it. Anyhow, it's a great deal! We're all fed up with the increasing crime in Pioneer Square, and each one of us needs to do what we can to stop it. The Seattle Police Department has a non-emergency number: (206) 625-5011. Program it into your cell phone and any time you see anything concerning: drug activity, public drinking or urinating, excessive noise after 10 p.m., suspicious or harassing behavior, graffiti, etc., call it. You won't get an immediate response, but each call gets logged and there's no better documentation for allocating police resources. And of course, call 911 for any crime in progress.

Judge: Philip H. Brandt I came across this item in the business section of today’s Seattle Times. It’s always great to see one of our neighbors highlighted in a favorable way for doing something of value. Kudos to Tyson Roberts, CEO, Lucid Commerce.

http://blogs.seattleweekly.com/voracious/2009/02/the_unique_economics_of_tats.php Everybody loves Tat's. Or at least, every guy loves Tat's. The scruffy little sandwich place on a scruffy stretch of Occidental is always attended by a long line of guys. With its Reubens and Cheese-Steaks, it's like a slice of the East Coast in Pioneer Square—but really, not like those ersatz "Jewish" delis that spring up as a vanity project in Seattle every few years. And one of the things I find most oddly eccentric about it is the pricing. Everyone knows that in order to up-sell, you make the bigger item seem like a relative bargain. The tall coffee at Starbucks is about twice the size of the short, but only costs 30 cents more (or thereabouts). You can get a giant movie theater popcorn for just a fraction more than what the smaller bucket costs. Etc. Standard food industry practice. But Tat's turns that on its head. There, an 8-inch Italian sub costs $7.50. But if you want a 12-inch—that is, a sub that's 50% bigger—you have to... Excellent article at SeattleTimes.com regarding the Viaduct this morning. I was surprised to see that the structure shakes up to ten times more violently than the near-by ground during an earthquake. As a resident who lives above eyelevel of the aged structure, I can feel my building shake even when a Metro bus passes by. See the article here:
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2008783010_viaduct25m.html I recently came across this over on http://horsesass.org. Street-parking pay stations in Seattle are being converted to reflect new, higher hourly parking rates approved last year by the Seattle City Council. Already, pay stations have been converted in South Lake Union and Pioneer Square. Downtown pay stations should be converted by the end of the month. Stickers showing the new rates are being affixed to the pay stations, and a message should show the current rate when you pay. A chart of new rates is online at www.seattle.gov/transportation/parking/rateincrease09.htm. The new hourly rate is $2.50, up from $1.50, for short-term, on-street paid parking in the downtown area. In other areas, new rates are $2 or $1.50 per hour, depending on the neighborhood. http://www2.seattle.gov/fire/realTime911/getDatePubTab.asp I found the Seattle Comedy Blog, you will see a lot of posts for the new comedy club The Comedy Underground as well as 88 keys, both located in Pioneer Square. I found the following over on the examiner, another interesting story about the crazy Mardi Gras party in Pioneer Square back in 2001. Ready to stand UP and Make PS safer!
