Street-parking pay stations in Seattle are being converted to reflect new, higher hourly parking rates approved last year by the Seattle City Council.
Already, pay stations have been converted in South Lake Union and Pioneer Square. Downtown pay stations should be converted by the end of the month.
Stickers showing the new rates are being affixed to the pay stations, and a message should show the current rate when you pay.
A chart of new rates is online at www.seattle.gov/transportation/parking/rateincrease09.htm.
The new hourly rate is $2.50, up from $1.50, for short-term, on-street paid parking in the downtown area. In other areas, new rates are $2 or $1.50 per hour, depending on the neighborhood.
